How Do Inverter Generators Work?


These generators operate by producing 3-phase AC energy at a high frequency. That AC will then be converted to DC, then back to AC which can be utilized by appliances and other electronic devices. Inverter generators release electricity that’s often referred to as “clean power” because they are consistent and stable and they deliver a steady sine wave.

Because it’s steady, there is no voltage fluctuation unlike in conventional generators. As you all are well aware, unexpected power fluctuations can damage sensitive electronics and other advanced appliances.


Inverter generators allow parallel operations, which means they can work in partnership with another identical unit to increase the power output.

They actually work in similar fashion as traditional generators. The only differences are they can invert DC to AC and they utilize Neodymium magnets rather than brushes. Various models use different types of mechanical energy and turn it to electrical power.

Square Wave

Modified sine wave inverter generators deliver power with a wave that’s almost the same as the square wave inverters. All other appliances can function well with this type of inverter except for your refrigerator, fan, pump motor, and other devices that include temperature control.



Inverter generators are fuel-efficient, compact, and have sufficient runtime. They can also adjust the engine speed based on the load demand. Even though they are more expensive than standard ones, they are a better option because they are quieter, and they generate less vibration. Because of their lightweight, you can also handle, transport, and store them quicker. They work well with laptops, phones, and other sensitive devices too. Lastly, they release fewer emissions, which means they’re environment-friendly.
